Spend a day at San Remo, where the mainland of Australia connects to Victoria’s Phillip Island.

San Remo is a beautiful destination filled with activities, scenic views, and wildlife. The area also has a bridge that connects the mainland to Phillip Island!

There are plenty of things you can do in San Remo with the chance to make a quick trip across the bridge to explore Phillip Island too.

San Remo Australia

Feed some pelicans

Every day is a chance to feed some pelicans by San Remo Pier. Midday every day you can feed some pelicans and learn more about these wild birds.

Typically, there are around 5 to 35 pelicans that will be around the beach to grab some fresh seafood you are offering them.

Watch the sunset

There’s no better way to end the day than watching the sunset. You can watch the sky change colours from San Remo Pier. Make sure you pick up some fish and chips to enjoy from Fisherman’s Co-Op.

George Bass Coastal Walk

Take a walk along the cliff-top for beautiful coastal views. The George Bass Coastal Walk takes around two hours to complete one way and is seven kilometres long. You can start the walk by Punch Bowl Road and along the coast finish up at Bass Highway in Kilcunda.

Cross the bridge towards Phillip Island

Phillip Island Little Penguins

Just across the bridge from San Remo is Phillip Island, with even more places to explore! Phillip Island is a popular Victorian day trip or weekend getaway. Phillip Island is your chance to see all kinds of wildlife. Visit the Penguin Parade for the fairy penguins, see fur seals at Seal Rocks, or spot some koalas at the Koala Conservation Reserve.

You can also stop by a winery to try the local wines and grab a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants over in Cowes. If you have a sweet tooth, stopover at the Phillip Island Chocolate Factory.

You can book a tour of Phillip Island here.

How to get to San Remo

The easiest way to get there is by car, which is about a two-hour drive from Melbourne. Public transport is available, but very limited and can be rather difficult to get around.

However, you can get a Yarram coach from Southern Cross, and then switch coaches at Koo Wee Rup Bus Interchange. This coach will take you down towards Sam Remo.
