The joyous congregation at Seal Rocks, Phillip Island
Phillip Island, or “Philly” as it’s affectionately known, is a nature lover’s paradise. First, there is the world famous Penguin Parade, where every night the island’s resident little penguin colony comes waddling across the seashore after a day’s fishing.
Next, there is one of Australia’s best wildlife sanctuaries at the Phillip Island Wildlife Park. Throw in some of the best snorkelling, beaches and nature walks this side of the Great Barrier Reef and you have yourself a recipe for a natural wonderland.
There is a highly amusing natural spectacle we failed to mention above: Seal Rocks. This little outpost of rocks around the bend from the Penguin Parade is easily one of the best places in the Southern Hemisphere to watch fur seals in their element – 25,000 of them to be precise!
A visit to Seal Rocks is the perfect prelude to the Penguin Parade, as visitors love seeing these hilarious sea creatures laze about on the rock formations.
Once you’ve caught a glimpse of these furry characters hanging around it’s time to head over to the Penguin Parade, so let’s take a look at that amazing attraction as well as some other awesome adventures at Phillip Island.

It’s a penguin party!
The fun and excitement of Seal Rocks and the Penguin Parade are the perfect combo for a day of awesome wildlife activities. The Penguin Parade holds a special place in the hearts and memories of many tourists, who revel in the opportunity to watch these cheeky little penguins meander up the sandy beach with (hopefully) a few fishies in their beaks.
The Penguin Parade operates year-round, but parents might want to decide which time is best to take the kids, as it can be mighty chilly in winter but the penguins come in later in summer! But don’t despair – there are sheltered dugouts that give you plenty of cover and the best view of the penguins coming home for the night.
