Known mostly as a surf beach, Cape Woolamai is renowned for its surf. It’s a hub for pro surfers who take on some of Phillip Island’s more challenging waves, Cape Woolamai is home to powerful surf and dramatic rocky scenery that encases the whole beach.
It’s even got the reputation as one of the best surf breaks in Victoria. Climb to the top of the peak, and you’ll be glad to sample some of the most peaceful views on the whole island.
You’ll also get to the highest point on Phillip Island!
Walking and access around Cape Woolamai
Not only is it a haven for surfers, but it’s a hiker’s playground! Cape Woolamai gives walkers access to the famous Pinnacles, a unique rock formation that is iconic to Phillip Island’s scenery.
There are a couple of different walks you can do around Cape Woolamai.
Simply park at the Cape Woolamai Beach Car Park and use it as your base. Then wander onto the beach and follow it along for about 1 kilometre. After that, you’ll be able to take some stairs upwards to the cliff and do a few loop walks. Different return loops will offer fantastic views and take you along the pinnacles.
· The Pinnacles Walk (return) is 4.5km and it takes around 1.5 hours.
· The Old Granite Walk Return is around 6km
Or you can do the large return walk, which will take you through the whole circuit. The Cape Woolamai Circuit Walk is 8km altogether.
Seeing the Pinnacles
The Pinnacles are the rocky residue and aftermath of a volcanic eruption. This interesting rock formation is unique to the coast of Phillip Island and has provided a backdrop for nature photographers and holiday makers alike!
Hiking the circuit trail
Take a coastal trek along the coastal circuit. With amazing, spectacular views of the ocean, you’ll embark on a wonderful 8km trek.
Discover the rock formations that have formed along the coastline of the south of the island. If you’re visiting in the summer months, make sure you sample a golden sunset or two.
