How To Get To French Island From Melbourne

Visit the ever changing island filled with beautiful landscapes and views.

French Island is located in Western Port, off the coast of the Mornington Peninsula. French Island is a great travel destination and we believe it’s worth visiting if you’re seeking unspoiled land and stunning scenery to explore.

Getting to French Island

From Melbourne, you will need to drive to either Stony Point in Crib Point or Cowes on Phillip Island. Stony Point is closer, with the drive taking about an hour and 20 minutes, while Cowes is approximately a two hour drive from Melbourne.

From either location, you will then need to catch a ferry to French Island. The ferry from Stony Point takes about 15 minutes, and from Cowes, the ferry journey is 30 minutes, both arriving at Tankerton Pier. You can purchase a ferry ticket online or onboard. Check the ferry timetable online but do keep in mind the schedule may vary due to weather conditions.
